Today is the fourth day that I’ve been taking care of foster dog #5, and it’s going really well.  Boulder’s super easy to deal with.  He’s really mellow inside, he can tell me when it’s time to go out, and he doesn’t bark incessantly.  Actually, he hasn’t barked at all yet- I hope it happens soon.  He’s a total fur explosion though, so I’ve been trying to give him a couple good brushings a day until we get the hair harvest under control.

He’s pretty typical golden retriver.  He doesn’t care at all about other dogs when we’re out walking, but if he sees a person within a hundred feet he does his best to go get pet.  Like some other dogs I’ve had in the past, he’ll play fetch indefinitely inside the house, but can’t be bothered at all to fetch when we’re outside.  I wonder if that would change over the course of a few weeks after he’s gotten used to his surroundings more.

He wakes up promptly at 7:00, which is fine, but I get up at 7:15, and it’s incredibly frustrating to be woken up 15 minutes before alarm goes off.  But I get by.  We’ve gone on a handful of long walks, and I’ve left him by himself inside the house for as long as 6 hours (!) without any problems.  He does have a thing about getting on the couch, so I piled up my dining room chairs on it to discourage him.  I also moved a table out from in front of the window, so he can stand there and look out.  Tomorrow we go to the vet for his microchip and a checkup.  And some pictures after the j u m p…
