So I didn’t really flesh out why I liked Obama, other than to say that I don’t like anyone else.  I don’t want to get into the policy stuff yet, mostly because I’m lazy. But the character thing is important. He’s a self-made man type, who made it to all teh fancy schools as a result of pretty much kicking intellectual ass. John Edwards makes a big deal about how he grew up poor and was still successful. I think that’s fine, and it’s still more impressive than someone like George Bush, or even John McCain, who grew up in a very well connected political family. That said, Edwards didn’t make the decision to go into public service until after he’d made millions. then, after losing the election in 2004, went back to the private sector and again devoted himself to making a ton of money. Obama’s decision to work for the community started early. Obama’s career has actually been quite similar to Bill Clinton’s: Clinton graduated from Yale, I believe, and then went on to become a law professor and the governor of Arkansas for more than a decade. Obama went to school, taught at school, worked in the community, worked for the state, worked as a senator. That’s a long term dedication to public service, not an opportunist thing, nor a politics-as-retirement-hobby that you see with a lot of millionaires. So that’s that. Of course, there’s really no point in proving Obama is better than Edwards. That’s fairly obvious. The weird thing is how many people are actualy into H. Clinton. That boggles my mind. I imagine a big part of it is her being a woman, because other than that she seems super unlikeable.  But I suppose there’s something good I’m missing about her. I’ll look into it. In the meantime, I’m going to write about something less important… Levity.
