Allspice

A few weeks ago, at my local St. Knut’s day festivities, we got to talking about “allspice” and whether it’s a legit thing or if it was like curry powder, ie an idea, an institution, a set of rules, but not actually..  a thing.  I recall thinking I had a jar of allspice “berries” in my spice rack, but I wasn’t sure whether they were real berries or just some manufactured balls created with a variety of spices.  So the argument was left unsettled.  Or perhaps we settled it there, one way or another, but I was never convinced.  Luckily, I promptly forgot about it.  Until today.  So, as it turns out, allspice is really a thing- the dried fruit of the, shockingly enough, allspice tree.  I think we should start  movement to refer to the spice as something else.  Wikipedia suggests “Jamaica pepper, Kurundu, Myrtle pepper, pimento, or newspice.”  I like Jamaica pepper or Kurundu.  Actually, my vote’s for Kurundu.   While we’re on topic, I also think we should refer to chick peas exclusively as garbanzo beans.  Because when you have an opportunity to say a word like garbanzo, you should say it.

That was not intentional and I have no idea how or wtf I managed to post a comment. Nor, for that matter, how to delete it.
