I’m curious how you dealt with the asbestos abatement – was it a surprise or did you know you had black mastic under the tile? 3 layers – that’s nuts. Did you get a professional abatement company? I deal with this ALL the time in my line of work as a property manager, but mostly in our industrial spaces. The residential asbestos usually shows up in the acoustic ceilings. Looking forward to seeing the finished product!

re: asbestos.
We looked online and found a guide for how to remove it, so we pretty much just followed those directions. We only had two people, and it recommended three, but otherwise I think we handled it pretty well. We’re also not 100% sure it was asbestos, we just think it was because the tiles were 9″x9″, which are generally bad.
