The Party Downers, self-proclaimed skate rockers, aren’t actually skate rock at all. They’re beer rock! At least, so says the Empty Bottle. I’ve never heard that before, but if any band is gonna be “Beer Rock” then I’m glad it’s the Party Downers. The description of the 6/28 show:

Regarded heavies SWEET COBRA return. They have just issued Seventh Rule longplayer, Praise, and will offer up material from it here. They’ll be joined by beer rock four-piece THE PARTY DOWNERS, as well as skaterock hardcore band FRONTSIDE FIVE.

Though I’d never heard “Beer Rock”, I have heard Days Off called “30-pack new wave.” Actually, I think that’s what I call them.  Also, Sweet Cobra released Praise a long time ago, at least a year and a half, probably longer.  No doubt they’ll be playing songs from it, but the Bottle should get its facts straight if it wants to maintain its spot as the premier scenester spot in the city.
